Shades of Amber Artist Workshop - Chalk Paint

Shades of Amber Artist Workshop - Chalk Paint: Shades of Amber talks about "chalk paint" and an all-day workshop you can attend for instruction.

Wanted to share our interview with the local news done last week to promote Annie's tour. We were so stinkin' nervous it was unreal, but somehow I think we managed to pull it off. At least we said everything we had wanted to say without any major mistakes. Enjoy.....(try not to laugh too much)

Chalk Paint - going industrial

I have been waiting to share this for a while, I am so excited about our new lamp. A local artisan made this lamp out of pistons from an old John Deere. I just love the industrial look of it!
He is quite a talented artist and I am so honored to feature his work in our shop.
He asked me to finish the base, I chose Graphite with a wash of Paris Grey over the top.
Topped off with a mica lamp shade.
It is such a unique lamp! He made it just playing around one day when I spied it. He wasn't sure anyone would be interested in it, but I talked him into letting me bring it into our store and see what happens.

What do you think?

Personally, I can't wait to see what he creates next...

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Link Party

WOW! Can I just say that the last two weeks have been an absolute blast! A whirlwind of travel, lots of talking, laughing, sharing, creating, and late nights....but oh so worth it! We can't wait to share little tidbits from Annie and all of our adventures.
~ Stay tuned later this week ~

For now, let's start the party!
Kristen over at Sohpia's Decor was on the hunt for a farm table and scored with this one (oh how I wish to find the twin!) She and her husband put some serious muscle into it and look at her result ~ WOW! Doesn't it look like it has been sitting in an old farmhouse aging and gaining a patina over time? That's the magic of Duck Egg and Pure White - Beautiful!
Connie from Hartwood Roses took a 1970's china cabinet and turned it into a stylish home for a TV using Duck Egg and Olive. I just love the two toned finished look, very updated glass shelves and would fit right in to any home.

Chalk Paint Color Theory - Antoinette

Antoinette is a color that Annie re-introduced this year and we are so glad she did! It was launched along with her American Tour in support of Breast Cancer Research. Did you also know that $1 from every can of Antoinette purchased in 2012 is donated to Breast Cancer Research as well?

Antoinette is the color of old fashioned roses and the color of old plaster.
It is a soft pale pink with just a hint of brown in it so the pink is not too sweet!
Reduced using Old White
Don't forget that Antoinette is on Sale all this week.
You get a beautiful color and a donation to a very worthwhile cause as well!

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Linky Party!

Congratulations to Sondra and Denise for winning the two tickets to Annie's tour in Denver!
It will be fabulous, can't wait to see you both there!
Color is what caught our eye this week. Erin from How to Nest for Less finished this corner table in Barcelona Orange for a POP of color. She is currently working on her dining room makeover, where this gorgeous piece will call home! Stunning!
Anne from Vintage Goods took a complete cast-off and turned into something useful and fun. I really liked the color combination with Emperor's Silk and Louis Blue. Boy, did she really transform this piece, great job Anne!

Chalk Paint Color Theory - Scandinavian Pink

One of the traditional colors found in much Swedish furniture, we use it underneath and as a color for interiors of cupboards and drawers.

King Gustav III of Sweden was heavily influenced by French politics and French decoration. He introduced French Neo-classical style to Sweden
Gustavian interiors were light and elegant interpretations of the Louis XVI style, with echoes of English, German and Dutch influences

Find it used in combination in the Traditional Swedish Palette
Reduced using Old White

Scandinavian Pink is definitely one of the under used colors, but it does make for a beautiful accent, don't you think?

Annie Sloan in Denver, Colorado

Get ready Denver! Annie Sloan has officially kicked off her North American Tour!
Photo: Sasha Hostetter

We just returned from New Orleans for the official kick-off to her tour. What an amazing opportunity and truly wonderful people we met! I wanted to share a few comments from fellow retailers about meeting Annie:

Annie is a true "original", a consummate and accomplished artist without ego-full of as much grace and humility as talent and creativity. She leads by example and everything flows beautifully from her. It's an honor to be an ambassador for her and her brand - Melanie Royals

Meeting Annie Sloan was an utter delight. It is her essence that makes her so special. She has unabated enthusiasm for her work and for her paint. Yes, Annie Sloan Chalk Paint is a magic elixer that transforms sad and unloved old furniture into heirloom masterpieces, but I swear it is because a little drop of Annie Sloan's joie de vivre is in every can. - Lisa Ard

I learned how truly sincere and caring Annie Sloan is. It was truly amazing to see how much individual time she gave each of us. I feel extremely blessed to have been able to participate. - Vicki McKee

I have a degree in illustration and design and I have had courses on color theory, but Annie's presentation on color theory was better than any of that! She had the most amazing presentation! It made me love color theory even more. It just shows how much knowledge and history stands behind such a phenomenal product. - Jenny Parkhurst

Annie truly is amazing. Her lifelong devotion to art is reflected in presentation on color theory. She is energetic and enthusiastic, extremely creative and talented. What stuck us the most was her sincere caring and humility.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to meet Annie in person!
Annie will be in Denver, Colorado on March 21, 2012. She will also be in San Francisco (March 19), Chicago (March 24), Nashville (March 26), Atlanta (March 29), Leesburg (March 31), and Boston (April 2). Click HERE for more info and to register.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Link Party

We are currently doing some advanced training with none other than Annie Sloan herself! We have learned so much already and can't wait to finish up and share with all of you.

Theresa, Momma T, did a fantastic job on this Union Jack dresser she just completed for her son's new bedroom. Napoleonic Blue, Emperor's Silk, and Pure White make a great combination. And I must say, Theresa you are an inspiration! You do have many irons in the fire and our prayers are with you and your husband; thanks for sharing your creativity with us, we are honored.

Sky Blu Pink really took this one up a notch or two! This was a very dated 70's dresser turned sophisticated with Graphite and Old White. Is it any wonder that Francine sold it in one day's time? Gorgeous!

Chalk Paint Color Theory - Primer Red

This week we are featuring Primer Red.

Primer Red is a deep red ochre found in practically every culture from Venetian palaces to Vietnamese temples. Red earths were plentiful and relatively easy to come by. The color is often associated with the color for priming furniture and as the base coat for gilding. It is a wonderful color on its own or as a base for other colors, particularly when distressing.
Adjust the color by adding Old White to achieve the beautiful and distinctive brown pinks of Venice.

Have you used Primer Red yet?
If not, here is your chance, it is on sale all week!

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Link Party

What a beautiful day yesterday was and today is shaping up to be the same! Gorgeous spring weather! We spent the afternoon outside prepping the garden for planting, I can't wait for garden fresh tomatoes. I definitely have spring fever!
Martina at Northern Nesting did a fabulous job on this little piece. After Old Ochre and CoCo, it looks divine in her entry! Love the color combination you chose, Martina.
And, what can I say? I am a sucker for french script. Stiltskin Studios transformed these end tables in Old Ochre and added a french poem stencil. Michele, I am scheming where to put these in MY living room!

Chalk Paint Color Theory - Emperor's Silk

Welcome to our NEW WEEKLY SERIES: Chalk Paint Color Theory. Every Monday, we will be featuring a different Annie Sloan Chalk Paint color. We want to give you the background of how the color was developed, show you what you can do with it, and give examples of different pieces painted with the color.

Also, as a special treat, the color will be on sale for the entire week!
Yup, can't beat that, a SALE on Annie Sloan Chalk Paint!

First up, Emperor's Silk.

Emperor's Silk is a vibrant, rich red. It is stunning with a great deal of impact. This bright, clear, rich red is the color of China. It signifies reunion, health, happiness, harmony, peace and prosperity. Try painting one piece in a room with this stunning color. It can also be used as an interior of a cabinet or drawer, like the red silk lining of a jacket.
You can adjust the color by adding Old White to make a bright, strong, exotic flowery pink or the pinks from Indonesia.
The vibrant color on the inside of this piece below was Annie's inspiration for the color
