Chalk Paint Reveal

Finished up with the night stand and it turned out beautifully!
Here is what it looked like to begin with, good bones but the finish was beat up

Painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, main body painted in Old Ochre

I wanted to accent the drawer and make it pop, so I used Duck Egg Blue

along with Old Violet.

Here is the drawer with a little punch of color.
Loved the raised area down the side of the night stand and wanted to accent it a little bit, but didn't want to take away from the drawer being the focal point. I painted a layer of Duck Egg Blue and Old Violet just on the raised area prior to painting the whole piece with Old Ochre. Waxed it and then sanded back to reveal a hint of color beneath.
Here you can see both colors revealed, also sanded through to the wood in areas too.
Finished with a coat of Clear Wax and Dark Wax accents.

I wish you touch the finish through the computer, it is so smooooth!
What do you think? Not bad for a beat up thrift store find.

  9. I love Old Violet... I'm curious how you did this.

Did you put Duck Egg down then a layer of Old Violet then sand to get the different colors in the drawer to pull out? Or did you simply mix them 50/50?

  10. Lisa - Thanks!

The base coat was Duck Egg Blue, then stippled on top with Duck Egg Blue and Old Violet. Followed with clear wax and dark wax.

This is one of the techniques we teach in our workshop:

  11. Thank you. So pretty. I wish more people would incorporate Old Violet. I rarely see photos of anything done with it.
