Memories, from our Home to Yours

We had a special moment here at the store not too long ago.  A cute couple walking past the store peeked their heads in and fell in love with our boutique

Shelby & Charlie said it was the perfect spot for their Christmas card photos.

We were so honored by their request to capture their Christmas memories in our store!
Not only is the couple adorable...but so is their photographer!

Sara's passion is capturing life's precious moments. Her portfolio features weddings, kids, families, babies, engagements and high school seniors.  There's no doubt Sara loves what she does when you begin clicking through each creative and beautiful photo with anticipation of what you'll see next.

Be sure to visit her blog Sara Joy Photography!

Have a lovely weekend!

Annie Sloan Work Book Launch and Open House

Many of you may know yesterday, here at Shades Of Amber, we celebrated the launch of Annie Sloan's Work Book with an Open House. A special day for all to see just what Annie's Work Book is all about.

In her Work Book, Annie tells us that as a new art student just starting school, she was encouraged to keep a sketchbook.  As she collected colors, pages ripped from magazines and patterns she realized this was a way of developing a visual voice and language.

The Work Book is full of tips for painting with her chalk paint and making colored wax.  Pockets for collecting photos, fabric, ribbon and wallpaper swatches.  As well as ideas for creating patterns and much more!

Everyone that attended had the opportunity to play with all 30 paint colors available right in their own Work Books.

Annie encourages painting and sketching right in the Work Book too.  Do you feel as though you can't draw?  Don't be afraid, use stick figures it's okay!

Are you on Pinterest?  Annie is and she loves using Pinterest to discover and share inspiration. She created several themes in her Work Book along with a Pinterest board for each so she can continue to inspire you.
For Annie's Pinterest boards...
Click on Annie Sloan

We have created theme boards on Shades Of Amber Pinterest Page as well.
Click on  Shades Of Amber
We will be adding to our newly created themed boards as we continue to work on projects.
We would love to share inspirations and photos from your
Work Book too!

Maison Decor Blog is inspired by this photo.  Playing with the colors they are going for, documenting the formula and using silver gilding wax.
The patterns they painted on the page are great, wonder if they will use that inspiration somewhere?  Can't wait to see the finished product!

Annie encourages us to use her Work Book in the same way as your 'aide-memoire'...a reminder or memory aid for developing your own particular style and color palette.

The Open House was a blast.
Everyone learned a lot and said the Work Book is a fabulous tool

If you would like to own your own Work Book they are available at
Shades Of Amber.
You can order online or call the store at 719-265-9921.

Have a lovely and inspiring weekend!

Miss Mustard Seed is in the House...

...Shades Of Amber House!

We are absolutely thrilled Marian came to visit and teach us how it's done.

Marian gives expert advise during her Milk Paint Workshop .

Have you ever wondered if Marian mixes her paint by hand or uses a mixer?

The burning question is answered, By Hand!

She typically does not let it sit, she gets right to the task at hand and starts painting!

Marian shows us how she takes off the loose paint.

Up close, the aged look we want.

She is so well prepared & organized with great visuals of the pieces she has completed.

Once class was over Marian signed her books and visited with those that attended class.

If you are in the area, please stop by for a book signing this evening from
5-7pm.  We'd love to see you and Marian would too!

Looking forward to another full day tomorrow of Marian's talents.
